My Workroom

Edith Designs is a soft Furnishing business owned by Yvonne Kirk.
If your name is Yvonne you might ask, why is your business called Edith Designs? That is an easy question to answer. There have been four generations of women in my family whose name contains Edith.
My Granny Gruchy who was born and bred in St Helier, Jersey, in the Channel Islands, her first name was Edith. My mum who was also born and bred in Jersey, her middle name was Edith. My middle name is Edith and I was proud to carry on the tradition with my daughter whose middle name is also Edith. Four generations, and each one creative in their own fields.
My mum moved to Scotland after the second world war. My dad was one of the liberators of the islands, at the end of the war. They met and married, and moved to the Stewartry where my dad had lived all his life.
I have always had an interest in working with children, and have done so in educational settings for many years. I also had an interest in sewing and one of my colleagues asked me to make something for her daughter's baby . She asked that it be something with lions in the pattern. I sourced some really bright fabric which is actually in my collection at this time. While making up the item I started to think that it would be a good idea to have a little business where I could combine my interest in children with sewing and so Edith Designs was born.
I live in the small market town of Castle Douglas in Dumfries and Galloway. It is called The Food Town of the region because of all the excellent places to eat. It has little shops selling lots of unique wares and crafts. People come from far and wide to visit the town. Run of the mill it is not!! I am very pleased to join the ranks of producers in South West Scotland.
